It’s difficult to look good every day, especially when you have a lot on your plate and work from home. When you have to schedule washing your hair and shaving your legs into a Google calendar, you know things have gotten out of hand.
The challenge is real
I’ve been struggling with this for, I don’t know, 3-4 years, and I’ve observed and learned some things that I think are worth discussing. During my baby’s first year, I’d spend many days running around in my PJs, unable to shower or brush my teeth until 2 p.m. Then, once the baby is fed and asleep, I’ll be so tired that I’ll want to nap as well.
I felt sloppy and as if I was losing a piece of myself. Taking care of myself and my appearance makes me happy, and it has always been important to me.
Wanting to look good is not a bad thing
It’s true that looking good makes you feel good. You are self-assured. Some may find it superficial, but I believe that is simply judging others for wanting better for themselves. Wanting to look good isn’t a bad thing. It in no way diminishes your character.
When you feel good in your body and confident in what you’re wearing, you’re more open to new experiences and have a different outlook on life. You’re ready to meet anyone, and you don’t need to hide behind a dumpster or explain your appearance. We all know we deserve better, whether we want to admit it or not. Every day, we have the right to look our best.
Now, here are some things I’ve discovered that make me feel and look better, even if I don’t leave the house for three days.
Get up a little early
Even if it’s only 15 minutes, you can accomplish a lot. I can quickly shower, brush my teeth, put on some natural makeup, and dress.
Small moves
Looking good every day boils down to one thing: making a small effort every day. Don’t be lazy and skip doing your laundry or ironing your dress because you don’t feel like it. It seems like such a minor detail, but when you don’t do it for a while, you realize how crucial it is when you don’t have clean clothes to wear.
Moisturize
Apply a moisturizer that works for you to your face, neck, and chest. After a shower, don’t forget to apply body lotion (or coconut oil) and hand cream (both are essential!).
Exercise
Exercise makes you feel good, it can help you lose weight and become leaner, and it improves blood circulation, allowing vital organs like your skin to receive fresh nutrients more quickly.
Exercise also improves your posture, makes you appear more alert, and makes you happier. This automatically improves your appearance.
In the morning, I like to do 10 minutes of yoga, and those 10 minutes change everything! Like everything else. Yoga is very accessible these days; you don’t have to drive to a class at 5 a.m. You can do it at home and find instructional videos on YouTube. This is the yoga routine I use to start my day.
Make your hair
You don’t have to wash your hair every day or do anything crazy, but you can treat yourself to a blowout every now and then. I like to do it every two weeks because it makes me feel so much better knowing my hair looks good. I look put together even when I’m wearing jeans and a T-shirt (or, let’s be honest, leggings) and very little or no make-up.
Check your nails
Again, nothing special is required; simply do your nails once every week to two weeks. At the very least, ensure that they are clean and in good shape!
I usually do them myself and use natural neutral colors that go with everything.
Hydrate!
Getting enough water will make your skin look more plump and youthful, and that little tedious trick works instantly!
Eat healthy foods
When you eat healthy, particularly more fruits and vegetables, your skin looks better and you can easily control your weight.
Go to bed early and sleep enough
That works like a charm. If you want to look good while getting up earlier, go to bed earlier. Make sleep a priority. It will help you get rid of bad food cravings, bad moods, and undereye bags.
Makeup
You don’t need much makeup to look good every day, but mascara and lipstick can go a long way.
Wear clothes that make you feel good
You don’t have to wear a tight dress and high heels to look good if you’re not comfortable in that outfit. You can look great in jeans, a white top, and flat shoes. On that particular day, wear whatever flatters you and makes you feel confident.
More smile
Remember to smile more often because it makes you feel better and makes you appear more friendly and attractive to others.
Do you think having white teeth makes you look younger?
According to the study, having white teeth not only increases your attractiveness by 20% but also reduces your perceived age by years. The study also looked at various scenarios and the impact that white teeth can have on the outcome. The number one turn off on first dates was discolored teeth and bad breath.
